Issues concerning port operations, particularly efficient cargo delivery, came to the fore yesterday as the Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Maritime Services, Mr. Leke Olugbenga Oyewole, toured the Lagos ports.
Oyewole had toured the Lagos Port Complex (LPC), Apapa and the Tin-Can Island Port Complex (TCIPC).
Oyewole had also met with stakeholders including the Executive Director, Marine and Operations Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Engr. David Omonobike; General Manager, Western Ports, NPA, Miss Adenike Sonaike, who was represented by the Assistant General Manager, Utilities, Western Ports, Engr. A A Odunsi; Port Manager, LPC, Mr. Mohammed Nasir; officials of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC); Customs Area Controllers (CACs), Apapa Area Command and Tin-Can Island Area Command, Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptrollers Charles Edike and Jubril Zakari, respectively; and two terminal operators, APM Terminals Apapa Limited and the Tincan Island Container Terminal Limited(TICT).

Also at the meeting were chieftains of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) and the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA), Save Nigeria Freight Forwarders Importers and Exporters Coalition, and the Association of Maritime Truck Owners (AMATO), among others.
Top on the agenda of the meeting were the issues of promoting efficient port operations and prompt cargo delivery.
In conclusion, Oyewole said that he will table the outcome of the deliberations before his principal President Goodluck Jonathan as recommendations to resolve issues that could be militating against the efficiency of the ports.
