The Port Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced its commitment to reducing the clearance time for Roll-on Roll-off (RoRo) cargo from the current record of two hours to just one hour.
This bold target was revealed by Comptroller Tenny Mankini Daniya, the Customs Area Controller (CAC) of the Command, during the celebration of International Customs Day in Lagos.
Comptroller Daniya emphasised that achieving this ambitious goal hinges on the compliance of importers and their agents.
“With sincere declarations, prompt payment of duties, and readiness for exit, the Command can clear automobile cargoes within one hour,” he said.
In a significant development, the PTML Terminal has also been approved by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) for the importation of pharmaceuticals.
Daniya attributed this approval to the terminal’s robust security measures and transparent operations.
The CAC commended Grimaldi Shipping for their efficiency and their recent commencement of direct shipping services from Lagos to Shanghai, China.
He described this as a positive step toward enhancing legitimate trade and fostering stronger international connections.
Speaking on the theme of this year’s International Customs Day, “Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security and Prosperity,” the Controller highlighted the PTML Command’s role in modernising customs operations.
“This Command is piloting the reorganization of the customs modernization project, which has already recorded significant successes,” he noted.
Looking ahead to 2025, Comptroller Daniya assured stakeholders of further improvements in service delivery.
He reiterated the Command’s commitment to collecting government revenue efficiently, safeguarding national security, and facilitating legitimate trade.
“As we move into 2025, we aim to surpass our current achievements. Our two-hour clearance time will be further improved to give port users the best customs experience at PTML,” he said.
The CAC also urged stakeholders to support ongoing initiatives such as the B’Odogwu program, which is being piloted at the Command.
Daniya called on stakeholders to continue their cooperation with the NCS, emphasising the importance of patriotism and collaboration in driving the nation’s economic growth.
“Our open-door policy remains in effect, and we are ready to address any issues brought to our attention,” he concluded.
