SEME: Customs denies media reports of alleged shootout between security agencies

The Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has stoutly denied reports in a section of the media (not SHIPS & PORTS DAILY) alleging a shootout between the operatives of security agencies at the border station, and the killing of a villager there by Customs personel.
A number of publications had reported penultimate weekend that some Customs personnel and those of some other security agencies at Seme allegedly engaged in a shoot-out and shot dead a youth who is an indigene of a village in Seme.
The Customs Public Relations Officer (CPRO), Seme Border Command, Deputy Superintendent of Customs Ernest Olottah, in a statement sent to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, said that the reports were false and misleading.

Olottah said that the findings of a detailed investigation confirmed that there was no shoot-out among security agencies as alleged by the said publications, whose reporters, according to him, never visited or called to verify the facts about the matter.
He said that, contrary to the false reports, there has been cordial relationship among security agencies at Seme and Badagry, noting that the security agencies meet every month in a joint “route march”, and also in a regular meeting to demonstrate the unanimity of purpose among the agencies, and in synergy review situations and plan ahead.
The Command, according to the CPRO, will be forwarding a formal complaint detailing what he described as the unprofessional conduct of and maligning falsehood concocted by the said reporters to their respective media houses and appropriate regulatory agencies, including the Ombudsman subscribed to by the Newspapers Proprietors Association of Nigeria(NPAN).
