Annual Shipping Career Summit
The Annual Shipping Career Summit is a programme developed by our company to help Nigerians take advantage of career and investment opportunities in the nation’s vast maritime sector.The future of the Nigerian shipping industry continues to be both exciting and challenging.Nigeria is blessed with over 200 nautical miles sea limit, about 1, 000 nautical miles coastline, over 130 million people and well over ten billion dollars of import coming into the country annually.
The shipping sector offers such exciting and rewarding opportunities to keep the youths meaningfully engaged.We have received numerous positive feedbacks from past Summits held in Lagos, Abuja and Ibadan and Ilorin in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 respectively with an average of 250 participants in attendance indicating that many youths are eager to venture into the sector if only the right guidance is provided.

 

Quarterly Career Guide
Ships & Ports Career Guide holds monthly free of charge to participants to expose them to the various career and investment opportunities that abound in the shipping sector.Industry stakeholders volunteer to serve as Resource Persons to discuss their own profession with participants.The event is usually hosted at the Nigerian Chamber of Shipping in Lagos.

 

Annual National ESSAY Competition
In pursuance of our commitment of enabling Nigerians appreciate the potentials in the nation’s maritime sector and as a way of boosting manpower development and intellectual contributions for the growth of the sector, the Ships & Ports Annual National Essay Competition was created in 2007.The maiden edition of the Ships & Ports Annual National Essay Competition was held in the last quarter of 2007 with a Naval Officer, Lt. Cdr Atakpa Daniel emerging as Overall Winner carting away N100,000.00 cash while Mr. Adewale Opeyemi emerged winner of the 2008 edition carting away the Genesis Worldwide Shipping Prize for Best Overall Essay.
A young Lagos-based lawyer, Ejike-Ume Felix Ifeanyi, emerged as the winner of the 2009 Ships & Ports Annual National Essay Competition, carting away N100,000 cash Dangote Ports Operation Prize for Best Overall Essay even as the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) has instituted two prize categories in the annual cerebral competition in honour of its former deceased Directors General.Each edition also had nine other winners who carted away different prizes donated by industry operators.The purpose of the competition remains as it was at the outset: to encourage Nigerians to think aloud about the maritime sector and to revive and sustain vivid, contentious and creative essay writing about the sector.

The theme for the 2009 competition was “How can the maritime industry contribute to the realization of the objectives of Vision 20: 2020?”.
