Six men docked in Apapa for stealing trucks parts

Six men were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing 11 kick-starters from trucks in Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

The men, Godwin Peter (26), Babangida Shaibu (18), Ernest Kolawale (20), Fasanmi Omotayo (21), Bolawale Samuel (25) and Akinloye Babatunde (40), are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. They all pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Julius Babatope, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on February 8, 2020 at F Shour Transport & Logistics Company, Kirikiri Town, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired together to steal 11 kick-starters from trucks with registration numbers; KZR407XA, XB631NSR, B907GWL, DKD192XA, AE217DKD, XA538BBJ, KZR424XA, XA536BBJ, DKD192XA, XA546BBJ and DKD143XA valued at N990,000 and two wiring cables from two trucks with registration numbers; KZR407XA and AE217DKD valued at N22,500. Total value of items stolen N1,012,500 property of F Shour Transport & Logistics Company.

“The second defendant, Babangida Shaibu, dishonestly received one truck kick-starter valued at N90,000 property of F Shour Transport & Logistics Company knowing same to be stolen,” Babatope said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 328 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate R.E Ojudun granted the defendants bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.

Ojudun granted the second defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum. 

He adjourned the case till March 17, 2020 for mention.
