A 36-year-old seafarer, Ayiba Tare, was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N6 million armoured cable belonging to Capital Oil & Gas Limited in Apapa.
Tare is facing a two-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on January 18, 2019 at about 3am at Capital Oil & Gas Limited, Olodi-Apapa, Apapa.
“The defendant conspired together with others at large to steal armoured cable valued at N6 million property of Capital Oil & Gas Limited,” Aigbokhan said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate must furnish the court with proof of three years tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
The sureties must be residents of Lagos State.
She adjourned the case till February 21, 2019 for mention.
