Court remands man for stealing phone, cash

An Apapa Magitrate’s Court on Thursday remanded a 35-year-old man, Wasiu Tolani, for allegedly stealing Tecno phone and the sum of N100,000 in Apapa.

Tolani is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and unlawful possession of dangerous weapon. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 17, 2020 at about 9pm at Kirikiri Estate, Olodi-Apapa, Lagos.

“The defendant conspired with others at large to forcefully steal with the use of cutlass one Tecno phone valued at N40,000 and the sum of N100,000 properties of one Jennifer Ebenezer,” Obongha said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate Ayisha Grillo ordered the defendant to be remanded in prison custody till March 31, 2020 for mention.
