Terminal operators deny tariff hike

Terminal operators under the aegis of the Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN) have denied increasing their charges at the ports.

STOAN said if terminal handling charges would be increased, a formal announcement will be made to sensitise the port community.

“Contrary to speculations in a section of the maritime press, please be informed that terminal operators under the aegis of the Seaport Terminal Operators Association of Nigeria (STOAN) have not increased their charges. Members of the public and port users are advised to disregard any such report.

“We also use this opportunity to urge importers and agents to take advantage of this period to take prompt delivery of their goods at the ports, said STOAN spokesman, Bolaji Akinola.

A maritime journal, not SHIPS & PORTS DAILY, had reported on Monday that terminal operators increased their charges by 20 per cent.
