A former Chairman, Tin-Can Chapter of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Prince Taiye Oyeniyi, has denied that Comptroller-General of Customs DIkko Inde Abdullahi had, during A Stakeholders’ Forum on ICT Application for Trade Facilitation held in Apapa, Lagos, penultimate Tuesday, fingered him (Oyeniyi) for alleged fraudulent activities at the Tin-Can Island Port.
Oyeniyi, who is also the Secretary, ANLCA Board of Trustees (BoT), said that the Customs boss had only charged him (Oyeniyi) to use his experience, as a veteran clearing agent operating at the Tin-Can Island Port, to proffer solutions to the problems that plague the port.
“I was in the hall when we had the stakeholders’ meeting with CG. What the CG said was that I, Prince Taiye Oyeniyi, with my experience in the ports, should be used to streamline operational activities in the ports, to make sure things are done properly. There was no time … and I repeat, there was no time that the CG said that I am part of the people flying containers. I want to say it that am not part of that system, and I will not be part of it. There was no time that my name was associated with that, and I can tell you that, with my track record in the port, my position in the association as the Secretary, Board of Trustees, I have my integrity to protect. It is good for us to put the records straight. There is need for meto make this clarification,” Oyeniyi told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY.
These were part of the words the Customs boss directed at the ANLCA chieftain: “I am surprised that Taiye stood up to talk. Who is the problem at Tin-Can Island? In the whole of Nigeria now, it is at Tin-Can we are having problem. As an elder, why can’t you solve the problem of Tin-Can Island? Why are you complaining? Put your house in order! And you see, whoever must go to equity must go with clean hands.”
