Customs Area Controller, Tin can Island Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Zakari Jibrin has charged officers of his command on zero tolerance to corruption.
The Controller stated this against the backdrop of two alleged fake journalists who were arrested by officers of the command for alleged blackmail and extortion last week.
The ‘journalists’, who were believed to be on extortion mission were apprehended by officers of the command after thorough investigation.
Mathew Ojebode and Samson Okoh were accused of harassing the officers of the command with threats of possessing clips of some of the officers involved in corrupt practices.
However, the two men met their waterloo when they were invited to tender their evidence for possible prosecution of the said corrupt officers but could not produce any evidence.
Jubril who reiterated the new Comptroller General of Customs, Col. Hameed Ali’s zero tolerance for corruption said anyone caught in the act would be disgraced.
“When you do your work conscientiously with all dignity and integrity, you would be exonerated from all false accusations and be celebrated, so watch your actions,” he said even as he promised honest and hardworking officers reward for their diligence and transparency in the course of their daily operations as promised by the new Comptroller General.
Jubril blamed the action of the impostors on poverty and high rate of youth unemployment in the society.
