A yet to be identified lady was yesterday crushed to death by a container laden truck at National end of the Oshodi -Apapa expressway.
The driver that killed the lady abandoned the truck with registration number Akwa Ibom XX 435 KKN and ran away.
Though, when SHIPS & PORTS DAILY visited the scene of the accident, the corpse had been evacuated by officers of the Nigerian Police force.
The lady according to eyewitnesses was said to be on a bike when the unfortunate incident that claimed her life happened.
One of the eyewitnesses, Chukwudi Okafor, who spoke with our correspondent said the lady was crushed when the motorcycle she mounted slipped and fell in the middle of the road allowing the truck smash her head.
He said, “The lady was on the bike but while the rider was trying to maneuver to avoid head on collision with uncoming trucks, he ran into a ditch and the bike man with his passengers fell on the main road.
“The lady in the middle escaped unhurt but the lady that died was unfortunate as the truck smashed her head while the rider sustained serious injury and was rushed to a nearby hospital.”
Another eyewitness, Muhammed Kabir said that the lady who was billed to travel abroad tomorrow was going to buy a new phone when the accident occurred.
His words, “The other lady that escaped unhurt told us that the lady was going to Westminister to buy a Phone she was taking abroad tomorrow, though the order lady was unhurt, she was still in a state of shock.”
Kabir stated further that the truck driver tried to avoid the bike man by swaying to the other side to avoid crushing the passengers and the rider but he still climbed on them killing the lady instantly.
“The truck driver tried to avoid them but, it was unfortunate that he still climbed on them, injuring the rider and killing one of the passengers on the spot.”
While speaking, a Police Officer who pleaded anonymity because he is not supposed to speak to the press said the truck killed the lady on the spot.
He also said the truck with the motorcycle had been evacuated to their station to help in further investigation.
“The remains of the lady has been evacuated to mortuary and I know that the command would do everything possible to contact her relatives.
When asked whether the lady was rushed to the hospital before she gave up, the officer said, “She died on the spot and her body has been taken mortuary, it was unfortunate that her phone was stolen at the scene before we could get there, but we will ensure we contact her family,” the police officer said.
