A truck driver, identified as Sodiq Ajibola, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing serious accident to a motorcyclist in Apapa.
Ajibola is facing a three-count charge of causing accident, driving without driver’s license and without caution sign.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo told the court that the defendant committed the offences on February 27, 2019 at about 5pm at Mile 2 Expressway, Apapa.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of one Volvo Truck with registration number AGL 270 XA drove same on the public highway in a manner which was reckless and dangerous to the public. Having regard to all the circumstances of the case including the nature, conditions and use of Highway Code and caused serious accident to one yet unknown okada rider (motorcyclist) a fracture on his leg,” Ekpo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 19(1) of Road Traffic Act, 7 Cap 124 Vol 6 of Road Traffic Act and 36 (a) of Road Traffic Act, Law of Lagos State 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till March 27, 2019 for mention.
