A 35-year-old truck driver, Idowu Jesse was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing charcoal worth N800,000.
Jesse pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor told the court that the defendant and others at large committed the offence on December 24, 2016 at about 10am in Apapa, Lagos.
He said the defendant stole the charcoal belonging to an exporter, Alhaji Yaleubu Uba.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened Sections 409 and 285 sub section 9 (a)(b)of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2011.
The Magistrate, Mrs O. Alaka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
She said the sureties must be gainfully employed and should show evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
Alaka adjourned the case till April 19, 2017 for mention.
