Truck driver steals N240,000

A 52-year-old truck driver, Godspower Ugboka, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N240,000 belonging to an export company at Tin Can Island.

Ugboka is facing a one-count of stealing. He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Kolade Tedunjaye, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in November 2019 at Tin Can Island, Lagos.

“The defendant stole the sum of N240,000 belonging to De-Potter Nigeria Limited,” Tedunjaye said.

According to her, the offence is punishable under the section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate F.J Adefioye granted the defendant bail in the sum of N200,000 with one responsible surety in like sum.

The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till February 12, 2020 for mention.
