Man steals N.4m under pretence in Apapa

A 38-year-old man, Bolaji Hassan, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N400,000 under pretence to supply 134 empty drums at Apapa.

Hassan is facing a two-count charge of fraud and stealing.

The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in June 2019 at Railway Line, Ijora Badia, Apapa.

“The defendant fraudulently obtained N400,000 from one Dada Abolaji with pretence to supply him 134 empty drums, which he failed,” Bassey said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. 

Magistrate Ramot Ayilara granted him N50,000 with one surety in like sum. The surety is required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the matter till December 9, 2019 for mention.
