5 truck drivers destroy patrol vehicle, assault police officer in Apapa

15 Nigerians arrested in Malaysia for fraud 

 

Five truck drivers were on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly destroying police patrol vehicle and assaulting one Superintendent of Police and others at Kirikiri, Apapa.

The truck drivers are Hamuzat Akintayo (30), Tunde Omitola (26), Muhammed Musa (20), Riliwani Adeniji (25) and Sodiq Mureni (31). They are facing a four-count charge of conspiracy, assault, damage and obstruction.

The prosecutor, Inspector Iyobosa Onaiwu, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on September 7, 2019 at Berger Cement, Kirikiri, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired to wilfully cause damage to police patrol vehicle with registration number KSF 514 FF by breaking the vehicle windscreen and rear lights and assaulted one Superintendent of Police, Femi Iwasikun and others attached to Presidential Task Force on traffic decongestion by throwing stones and different objects at them while performing their lawful duties and caused them bodily injuries,” Onaiwau said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants wilfully obstructed one Superintendent of Police, Femi Iwasikun and others while discharging their lawful duties by barricading the road with stones and trucks.

According to her, the offences are punishable under section 411, 174, 174(a)(b) and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate O.S Abioye granted them N50,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till October 3, 2019 for mention.
