Man docked for stealing truck battery, diesel in Apapa

A 30-year-old man, identified as Emeka Njoku , was on Thursday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing one heavy-duty battery and 200 litres of diesel in Apapa.

Njoku is facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, stealing and wilful damage.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Friday Inedu, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on July 28, 2019 at Ijora-Bridge, Apapa.

“The defendant conspired with others at large to steal one heavy duty battery valued at N50,000 and 200 litres of diesel valued at N100,000 property of one Stephen Chukwu,” Inedu said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant wilfully damaged truck bumper valued at N80,000 and windscreen valued at N30,000. Total valued at N110,000 property of one Stephen Chukwu.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Temitope Babalola granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till August 22, 2019 for mention.
