A 35-year-old man identified as Adetayo Oluwaseyi was on Tuesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for stealing N1.4m to supply sand at the ongoing road construction along Lagos/Badagry Expressway.
Oluwaseyi is facing a four-count charge of false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometimes in July 2019 at China Civil Construction Company, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos/Badagry Expressway.
“The defendant entered into agreement with S.Modish, Pure Sunnah Merchandise and Voster Company and accepted to supply sand to the same company for the ongoing road construction, knowing fully that he was incompetent and untrustworthy to deliver a good service which led to the setback of the project,” Obongha said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant dishonestly stole 32 tips of sand valued at N640,000; 21 tips of sand valued at N420,000 and 16 tips of sand valued at N360,000 properties of S.Modish, Pure Sunnah Merchandise and Voster Company respectively which he claimed to have supplied to CCECC Company.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 212 (3)(a)(4) and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.
Magistrate Aisha Shittabey granted him N100,000 bail with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with proof of three years tax payment to Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
She adjourned the matter till September 24, 2019 for mention.
