 Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

Four men were arraigned Wednesday before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos for allegedly stealing branded items worth N700,000 belonging to a terminal operator at the Lagos Port Complex, Apapa.

The men were identified as Francis Yakubu, Ezekiel Richard, Okanlawon Jamiu and Majemite Tare. 

They all pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge bothering on conspiracy, breaking and stealing.

The prosecuting counsel, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendants committed the offences on June 19, 2017 at about 9am at the terminal operator’s store, which they conspired to break into.

He said the suspects stole 40 plastic poster bottles, 27 branded power banks, 32 branded pens, 6 lunch bags, 34 branded flasks, rulers and air freshener; all valued at N700,000.

According to him, the offences contravened sections 411, 309 (1&2),287 (5/A) criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, T.O Babalola granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties each in like sum. 

One of the sureties must be a blood relation from the paternal side of the defendants. 

The case was adjourned till August 11, 2017
