A devastating attack by Ukrainian forces on Thursday sank a ferry carrying 30 fuel tanks in the Russian port of Kavkaz, located in the southern Krasnodar region. The assault caused significant damage and sparked a fire, leaving 15 people on board missing.
Fyodor Babenkov, district head of Temryuk, confirmed the extent of the damage and the number of fuel tanks on board. All port employees were reportedly evacuated, according to Russian state news agency TASS, citing the Ministry of Transport.
A local task force has dispatched a specialised train to combat the fire and contain the situation.
The port of Kavkaz is a critical hub, serving as one of Russia’s largest outlets on the Black Sea for both exports and fuel supplies to Crimea.
