Members of the Women’s International Shipping and Trading Association (WISTA), Nigeria have renewed the mandate of their executives.
The association last Thursday conducted its election which turned out to be a mere formality as all the executives were returned unopposed to run the affairs of the association for another two-year term.
Jean Chiazor Anishere, Mary Madu Hamman and Anna Akpan all retained their positions as President, Vice President and Secretary respectively of the women association.
Faith Hope Aloyisus, Maryan Yusuf, Moji Agunbiade and Oby Nweke will also continue to serve as Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, Assistant Treasurer and Public Relations Officer respectively.
The re-elected President, Jean Chiazor Anishere, in her speech after the election thanked members of the association for their support assuring them of her team’s commitment to lift WISTA Nigeria to an enviable height in the industry.
She said her first major assignment will be to empower members through training programmes and to ensure that every member of the association occupies strategic position in the maritime industry.
“I must say I was engrossed with the huge activities lined up for the first tenure; having to set up the chapters in the six geo-political zones in Nigeria, that was not an easy thing to do, travelling to those states; ensuring that the girls there were doing the right thing and the numerous activities that we had in the past two years, the investiture programme, the launching of the first set of three volume of books that WISTA Nigeria wrote, the walk against River Blindness, and we also had an international conference, that was huge. In all that, I skipped the fact that I needed to train the next leadership so this time around I must. It is the number one thing to do, to identify the next leadership so that there will be continuity,” Anishere told SHIPS & PORTS DAILY.
