WMC intercepts 1,280 bags of smuggled rice.

The Western Marine Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has foiled attempt to smuggle 1,280 bags of rice with worth N9.3 million into the Nigerian market.

The command also intercepted 93 kegs of vegetable oil valued at N396, 640.00.

Addressing journalists at the command yesterday, Customs Area Controller, Comptroller Zakka Audu, said the items were smuggled into the country with a big boat and intercepted at Agbede, Yekeme Badagry axis.

He said the smugglers on sighting the officers escaped through the waters.

While warning smugglers to desist from the act, the customs boss reiterated the command’s commitment not rest on its oars in ensuring that smugglers are forced out of business
