Woman assaults policeman at Tin Can port

A 37-year-old woman, identified as Bosede Femi, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly assaulting one Sergeant Vintus Onuigbo at Tin Can Island Port, Lagos.

The 37-year-old woman is a food vendor. She is facing one-count charge bothering on assault.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offence on March 13, 2018 at about 3pm at Tin-Can Island port, First Gate, Apapa.

Balogun said, “The defendant committed serious assault on Onuigbo while performing his lawful duty.”

According to him, the offence contravened Section 174(b) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge.

In her ruling, the Magistrate O.A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with one responsible surety  whose address should be verified.

She adjourned the case till April 16, 2018 for trial.
