Agent docked for stealing N6.6m fraud

A 32-year-old clearing agent, Nuru Ahmed, who allegedly stole the sum of N6.6 million from one Ologun Israel Temitope to supply diesel, was on Tuesday, charged before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Ahmed is being tried for conspiracy, stealing and obtaining money under false pretence.

The prosecuting counsel, Sergeant Marvelous Anim told the court that the defendant committed the offences on August 28, 2017 at about 2pm at Obat Depot Beachland Estate, Olodi Apapa.

Anim said the defendant collected the sum of N6,617,000 from the complainant, Ologun Israel Temitope, to supply 45,000 litres of AGO popularly referred to as diesel.

He said the defendant had no intention of supplying the complainant with the product as he converted the money to his personal use.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravened sections 411, 314 and 208 (1)(b) criminal laws of Lagos State, 2015

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Adenike Alaka granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She adjourned the case till October 25, 2017 for mention.
