A 38-year-old mariner, Ikechukwu Ezealor , was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing N250,000 in Apapa, Lagos.
Ezealor is facing a two-count charge of false pretence and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in October 2018 at Apapa.
“The defendant obtained the sum of N250,000 from one Edward Odey Oluohu under the pretence that he would help him (Oluohu) to sandblast his vessel, MV Lady Ochy, which he knew to be false,” Ekpo said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 314 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Adegboyega Popoola granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with one responsible surety.
The surety is required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till August 1, 2019 for mention.
