Two oil marketers namely, Lanre Fatai (42) and Musibau Dauda (45),were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly obtaining by pretence a total of N12.5 million to supply AGO (diesel) product.
Fatai and Dauda are facing a five-count charge bordering on conspiracy, false pretence, fraud and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Sunday Bassey, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 27, 2018 at about 6:30pm at Techno Depot, Kirikiri Town.
“The defendants conspired together to fraudulently obtained the sum of N7.7 million from one Tobi Adeola with the pretence to supply 33,000 litres of AGO product which they knew to be false,” Bassey said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendants fraudulently obtained the sum of N4.8 million from one Adeyemi Kolade with the pretence to supply 20,000 litres of AGO product which they knew to be false.
Bassey told the court that the defendants stole N7.7 million and N4.8 million from Adeola and Kolade.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 314 and 287 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate, O.S Abioye granted the defendants bail in the sum of N1 million with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till January 17, 2019 for mention.
