A 27-year-old importer, Ebuka Anyanwu, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N4.5 million, being proceeds of motor spare parts supplied.
Anyanwu is facing a lone-count charge bordering on stealing.
The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Ogbongha, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometime in June 2018 at Trinity Market, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendant stole the sum of N4.5 million being the proceeds of motor spare parts which he supplied, property of one Edozie Chike,” Ogbongha said.
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 (9)(b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against brought against him.
Magistrate, K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.
She adjourned the case till January 17, 2019 for mention.
