Four men in court for setting ablaze police patrol van at Tin Can

Four men were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly setting ablaze one Toyota Hilux patrol van belonging to Nigeria Police Force at Tin Can second gate.

The men, Whaheed Folorunso (38), Kabiru Ogunremi (30), Mohammed Babalola (32) and Jeft Silver (25), are facing a five-count charge of conspiracy, riot, unlawful setting ablaze, unlawful damage and stealing. They, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The port prosecutor, Inspector Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on November 29, 2019 at about 10pm at New Trailer Park Police Station, Tin Can second gate.

“The defendants conspired together to cause riot at New Trailer Park Police Station where they wilfully and unlawfully set ablaze one Toyota Hilux patrol van valued at N6 million property of Nigeria Police Force.

“The defendants wilfully and unlawfully damaged the building of New Trailer Park Police Station by breaking all the glass windows and stole one Masik generator valued at N175,000 property of Nigeria Police Force,” Balogun said.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 45, 343, 351 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

Magistrate C.M Owunmi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. He ordered that one of the sureties must be related to the defendants, furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government and must provide means of identification and have must have verified address.
