Police arraign truck driver for traffic offences

A 35-year-old truck driver, Ahmed Lawal, was on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly driving recklessly and dangerously in Apapa. 

Lawal is facing a two-count charge bordering on reckless and dangerous driving. 

The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on December 20, 2018 on Liverpool Road, Apapa. 

“The defendant being the driver in charge of Iveco truck with registration number LSW 403 XV drove same vehicle on the public highway in a careless or inconsiderate manner,” Ekpo said. 

The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove same vehicle in a reckless and dangerous driving. 

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 18 and 19 of Road Traffic Law 2012.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with two reliable sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be gainfully employed with proof and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case till January 14, 2019 for mention.
