Two men namely, Michael Okpara (29) and Isheu Abdulahi (28), were on Friday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for stealing N1 million electric wire and N25,000 pumping machine.
Okpara and Abdulahi are facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on December 1, 2018 at about 8:30am at No 21, Sanusi Street, Abule Ado, Satellite Town, Lagos.
“The defendant, Okpara, stole electric wire valued at N1 million and one pumping machine valued at N25,000 properties of one Oloja Olusesi,” Aigbokhan said.
The prosecutor also said that the other defendant, Abdulahi, dishonestly received and retained the electric wire valued at N1 million and one pumping machine valued at N25,000. The total value of stolen items worth N1,025,000 properties of one Oloja Olusesi which he knew and believed the same to be stolen properties.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 287 and 328 (a)(d) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
The surety, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) and evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the matter till January 16, 2019 for mention.
