Man steals vital documents, laptop from Naval officer

Two truck drivers, Rafiu Jimoh (48) and Fatai Lawal (49) were on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing N2.5 million malted barley at Tin-Can port, Apapa.

Jimoh and Lawal are facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Marvellous Obongha, told the court that the defendants committed the offences between September 14th and 18th, 2018 at Tin-Can port, Apapa, Lagos.

“The defendants and others at large conspired among themselves to steal 8,250kg of malted barley and 2,480kg of malted barley,” Obongha said.

The prosecutor also said that the total number of items stolen was 10.73kg of malted barley valued at N2,467,900 property of F-Shour Transport Company Limited, being represented by Ahmed Mohamed.

Obongha said the defendants converted then proceeds to their personal use without the consent of the rightful owner.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.

The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.

Magistrate K. A Ariyo granted the defendants bail in the sum of N800,000 with two sureties in like sum.

One of the sureties, according to the Magistrate, must be a blood relation to the defendants.

She adjourned the matter till November 15, 2018 for mention.
