Police arraign security guard for stealing car keys at PTML

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port

The Port Police on Monday arraigned a 45-year-old security officer, Ilesanmi Ogunniyi, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing two car keys at PTML, Apapa.

Ogunniyi, who is a resident of no 11, Onaolapo Street, Ope-Ilu, Ogun State and a security operative with Sovereign Guard attached to Port Terminal Multi-Services Ltd (PTML), is facing a two-count charge bordering on stealing and pilfering.

The port prosecutor, Alexander Esebamen, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on October 12, 2018 at about 5:50am at PTML, Tin-Can Island Port, Apapa.

“The defendant stole two car keys valued at N150,000 property of PTML,” Esebamen said.

The port prosecutor also said that the defendant had in his possession two car keys suspected to be stolen and could not give a satisfactory account of them.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 287 and 329 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
Meanwhile, the Investigative Police Officer (IPO), Inspector Ojo Oluwafemi, told the court that the car keys had been recovered from the defendant.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against him.
Magistrate O. A Erinle granted the defendant bail in the sum of N80,000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government and six months bank statements.

She adjourned the case till January 23, 2019 for hearing.
