Truck driver docked for traffic offences

Four docked for stealing items worth N.7m at Apapa port
A 38-year-old truck driver, Ikechukwu Igwe, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly driving recklessly and causing accident in the Apapa area of Lagos State.

The prosecutor, Inspector Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on September 3, 2018 at about 2:15am along Liverpool Road, Apapa.

“The defendant, being the driver of a Mack truck with registration number LSD 356 XR, the Mack truck on the public highway in a dangerous and reckless manner to other road users and caused damaged to another Mack truck worth N800,000 property of Eagle Haulage Nigeria Ltd,” Aigbokhan said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendant drove same vehicle on the public highway and caused an accident.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections Law No 4 section 16 and 24 Vol 45 Lagos State Traffic Law 2012.

The defendant however pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate Joy Ugbomoiko granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.

She adjourned the case till October 10, 2018 for mention.
