3 arraigned over unlawful distribution of petroleum products

Three men yesterday appeared before a Federal High Court in Lagos, charged with unlawful possession and distribution of petroleum products.

The accused, Emmanuel Okorobia, Felix Oluwanisola, and Abbas Muhammed, are standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and unlawful possession and distribution of petroleum products.

They are being prosecuted by the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

However, the men pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge.

Following an application for remand by the prosecution, the trial judge, Justice Abdulazeez Anka, ordered the accused to be remanded in the custody of the NSCDC.

He adjourned the case to April 5, for hearing of their bail application.

In the charge, the accused were alleged to have committed the offences between January 20 and 21, 2015.

The prosecution alleged that the accused conspired with others now at large, to engage in illegal distribution of petroleum products. He said that the dealings in the petroleum products were without an appropriate licence.

The offence is said to have contravened the Provisions of Sections- 1(17) and 3 (6) of the Miscellaneous offence Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.
