Three men, namely Izunna Chukwueze (42), Chibuzor Okoye (20) and Bassey Sunday (21) were on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing jewelries, money and other valuables belong to an importer, one Chukwudi James.
The three men are facing a four-count charge bothering on burglary and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ejembi told the court that the defendants committed the offences on May 13, 2018 at about 2am at Kelvin Street, Ijegun Waterside Road, Satellite Town, Lagos.
Ejembi said, “The defendants conspired together to burgle the house of one Chukuwdi James at No 2 Kelvin Street, Ijegun Waterside Road, Satelllite Town, Lagos.
“The defendants stole one piece of gold necklace and two gold pendants valued N350,000, one silver necklace value yet unknown, two Nokia handsets valued N11,000, two finger rings valued N6,000, one silver wrist-watch valued N25,000, one hanging bag valued N2,000 and cash N45,000. The total items stolen valued N439,000.”
The prosecutor also said that the defendants damaged one entrance door protector valued N10,000.
According to him, the offences are punishable under section 411, 307, 287 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2015.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges against them.
The Magistrate, O.M Ajayi granted the defendants bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties. The sureties must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till June 13, 2018 for mention.
In a separate matter, a 24-year-old man, Ibrahim Olakunle was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing money and other valuables belong to a customs agent, Abu Rashidat.
Olakunle is facing a one-count charge bothering on stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Sunday told the court that the defendant committed the offence on May 18, 2018 at about 11:30pm at No 4, Fashinro Street, Maza-Maza, Lagos.
Sunday said, “The defendant stole N50,000, one Nokia camera phone valued N10,000, one body cream valued N1,200, and one body perfume valued N1,000. The total items stolen valued N62,000 property of one Abu Rashidat.”
According to him, the offence is punishable under section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge brought against him.
The Magistrate, A.S Okubule granted the defendant bail in the sum of N20,000 with one credible surety. The surety must be a blood relation to the defendant and must furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
She adjourned the case till May 28, 2018 for mention.
