4 staff of dredging firm kidnapped in Bayelsa

Four workers of a dredging firm have been kidnapped in Nembe creek in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State by gunmen.

The abduction, it was learnt, occurred on Saturday at Agbakabriye in the Nembe creek at about 9p.m.

The kidnapped workers, it was learnt, were staff of a dredging firm attached to Setraco, the construction company handling the Ogbia-Nembe Road project.

Sources from the area said the abduction was the second in eight weeks. Though the police command spokesman, Mr. Alex Akhigbe, said the command was yet to get the signal on the abduction, a security source gave the names of the abducted workers as Caleb Agene, Otuke Magic Kingdom, Gabriel Oghene and Godwin Odukpong.

The dredging crew members were reportedly seized and whisked away from their dredging base by the armed men, who came in a speedboat.

“We heard sporadic shooting Saturday night, but we never knew it was from the dredging firm’s base,” a source said.

Sources confirmed that the Southern Ijaw and Nembe creeks have become the hub of violent crimes in recent times.
