7 men docked for damaging police patrol van, jeep in Apapa

Seven men were on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly damaging a police patrol van and a Toyota jeep.

The men are Akande Muyideen (22), Ahmed Sodiq (22), Sodiq Lukmon (28), Patrick Sunday (35), Lanre Daramola (22), Adedeji Kazeem (22) and Ahmed Ajala (25). They are facing a six-count charge of conspiracy, malicious damage, breach of peace and assault.

The prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on July 22, 2019 at about 12pm at Abikoye area of Amukoko, Apapa.

“The defendants conspired to unlawfully and maliciously damage a police patrol vehicle the front and side glass valued at N150,000 property of the Nigeria Police,” Balogun said.

The prosecutor also said that the defendants unlawfully and maliciously damaged the back and side windscreen of one Toyota 4 Runner Jeep with registration number KTU 582 CN valued at N110,000 property of one Olasunkanmi Owolabi.

Balogun added that the defendants unlawfully assaulted one Aminatu Isiaka by giving her fist blow all over her body, which caused her bodily pain.

He said, “The defendants conducted themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by putting tyre on the neck of one Aminatu Isiaka with intent to set her ablaze.

“The defendants also assaulted one Isiaka Soliu by giving him slap on his face which caused him bodily pain,” Balogun added.

According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 168(d) and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.

Magistrate T.A Oladele granted them N200,000 bail each with two sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.

She adjourned the case till August 15, 2019 for mention.
