The police on Wednesday arraigned two men, Chika Okafor (35) and Sulaimon Tajudeen (23), before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly possessing assorted phones unlawfully in Apapa.
The duo is facing a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 13, 2019 at about 6am at Muyibi Community, Olodi-Apapa.
“The defendants conspired with others at large to unlawfully possess the following valuables: one iPhone, two android Tecno phones, one android Itel phone, one Nokia phone, one e-focus power bank and e-charger and could not give satisfactory account,” Ekpo said.
According to him, the offences are contrary and punishable under sections 411 and 329 (1)(a)(c) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted them N100,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
One of the sureties must be a community leader. He ordered a payment of N10,000 be deposited into the Chief Registrar’s account.
He adjourned the case till October 30, 2019 for mention.
