Driver docked for damaging N1.5m truck engine

A 27-year-old truck driver, Adebayo Shakiru, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly damaging N1.5 million truck engine in Apapa.

Shakiru is facing a one-count charge of unlawful damage.

The prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendant committed the offence sometimes in August 2019 at about 2am at Otto-Ijora, Apapa.

“The defendant damaged the engine of MAN diesel truck with registration number AAA 150 XV valued at N1.5m property of one Rasheed Jeje which you knew was faulty and did not stop using it,” Salami said.

According to him, the offence is punishable under section 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge against him.

Magistrate O.A Erinle granted him N300,000 bail with two responsible sureties in like sum.

The sureties are required to be gainfully employed and furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government and Statement of Bank Accounts.

One of the sureties must be a blood relation to the defendant.

She adjourned the matter till October 16, 2019 for mention.
