The Nigerian Port Consultative Council (NPCC) has declared support for the newly inaugurated Federal Government Steering Committee on the National Single Window.
NPCC Chairman, Bolaji Sunmola, in a statement made available to SHIPS & PORTS, said that the project, when fully implemented, will increase the ease of doing business, support trade facilitation and block revenue leakage at the port.
He said NPCC is ready to assist the implementation of the project by monitoring its progress and giving necessary advisory support.
“The Nigerian Port Consultative Council about ten years ago went on a visit to Ghana to understudy its Port Community System, and it was shocking to find out that they had implemented the single window. Sadly, ten years after that visit, Nigeria is still grappling with the project,” he said.
He expressed hope that with the recent inauguration of the steering committee, the single window project will eventually take off in Nigeria.
