The President General of the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) and Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, has officially been confirmed into three key positions within the International Transport Workers Federation (ITF).
These roles include Vice President of ITF Global, Executive Board Member, and Chairman of the ITF African Region.
Adeyanju’s ratification was endorsed by over 2,000 delegates representing 150 countries during the 2024 African Regional Conference held in Marrakesh, Morocco.
In a statement on Saturday, Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media for MWUN, praised Adeyanju’s outstanding leadership, noting that his election to these prestigious global roles, initially decided in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire in March 2024, was well-deserved.
Ikemefuna emphasised that Adeyanju has excelled in every capacity, fulfilling the responsibilities expected of him by the ITF.
“Comrade Adeyanju’s new responsibilities are a testament to his exceptional leadership within the labour sector. His commitment to advancing workers’ rights in the global maritime industry is undeniable,” Ikemefuna stated.
Ikemefuna described Adeyanju as a symbol of resilience and dedication, highlighting his instrumental role in elevating Africa’s position within the global transportation sector.
“Comrade Adeyanju is a beacon of excellence, and his promotion reflects his tireless efforts in championing the rights of workers, not only in Nigeria but across the continent. His influence is now positioning Africa as a major player in the global transport industry,” Ikemefuna added.
