Former Ships & Ports Staff, Zino Akpor, Appointed Associate Professor

Dr. Zino Akpor, a former staff member of Nigeria’s foremost maritime public relations and media firm, Ships & Ports Communication Company, has been appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication at Edo State University, Iyamho, Edo State.

Currently serving as the Head of the Department of Mass Communication at the university, Dr. Akpor was among five academics promoted to Associate Professor last Wednesday.

The promotion was announced by the university’s Acting Vice Chancellor, Professor Dawood Egbefo, during a management meeting with Provosts, Deans, and Directors.

Professor Egbefo congratulated Dr. Akpor and his fellow newly promoted Associate Professors, emphasizing that their elevation was a recognition of their dedication to research and teaching. He urged them to continue their scholarly contributions to enhance the university’s academic standing.

Dr. Akpor holds a Bachelor’s, Master’s, and PhD in Mass Communication. Before transitioning to academia in December 2012, he gained extensive experience in journalism and broadcasting at Ships & Ports Communication Company, where he worked for over five years from February 2007 to November 2012. He started as a reporter and rose to the position of Assistant Editor.

Reflecting on his promotion, Dr. Akpor expressed gratitude to Dr. Bolaji Akinola, CEO of Ships & Ports Communication Company, for the mentorship, exposure, and support he received during his time with the firm. He credited Akinola’s guidance as a key factor in his academic career progression.

Dr. Akinola, in his congratulatory message, commended Akpor for his dedication and hard work.

“Zino has always been a brilliant, diligent, focused, and hardworking professional. His rise in academia is well deserved, and I am extremely proud of his accomplishments. At Ships & Ports, we saw his passion for journalism and excellence, and it is gratifying to see him continue to impact the next generation through teaching and research,” Akinola said.
