Navy Hands Over 529 Bags of Smuggled Rice to Customs in Badagry

Customs seizes smuggled rice, beans in Kano

The Nigerian Navy has handed over 529 bags of foreign parboiled rice seized during intelligence-led anti-smuggling operations in Badagry, Lagos, to the Nigeria Customs Service.

The Forward Operating Base Badagry said the rice was intercepted during targeted patrols along the Badagry-Porto-Novo Creek and adjoining waterways, disrupting smuggling activities along the Nigeria-Benin maritime corridor.

Of the seized consignment, 420 bags were handed over to the NCS Seme Area Command, while 109 bags were transferred to the NCS Western Marine Command, Badagry.

The Navy said the operations formed part of its sustained efforts to combat smuggling, trafficking and other transnational crimes, while strengthening cooperation with other security agencies to protect Nigeria’s maritime domain and economic interests.

The Base urged the public to provide credible information to support maritime security and efforts to curb criminal activities.
