The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has mourned the death of its former General Manager and Chief Executive, Bamanga Tukur, who died on Saturday aged 90.
Tukur, a prominent businessman and statesman, headed the NPA from 1975 to 1982, playing a key role in Nigeria’s maritime and trade facilitation sector.
In a statement issued at the weekend, NPA Managing Director, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, expressed condolences to Tukur’s family, associates and the people of Adamawa State.
Dantsoho also joined the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, and other dignitaries to receive the remains of the late business mogul.
“On behalf of the entire management and staff of the NPA, I would like to express our profound condolences and deepest sympathies to his immediate family, the Federal Republic of Nigeria and indeed the good people of Adamawa State on the demise of a pillar of trade facilitation and an inspiration to many,” Dantsoho said.
The NPA described Tukur’s death as a significant loss to Nigeria’s maritime and business communities, noting his contribution to the development of the country’s port and trade facilitation landscape.
