A 33-year-old truck driver, Mohammed Lawal, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for allegedly causing accident and driving without driver’s licence in Apapa.
Lawal is facing a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving, accident, driving without driver’s license and vehicle roadworthiness.
The port prosecutor, Sergeant Adeniyi Balogun told the court that the defendant committed the offences on March 20, 2019 at about 11pm along Creek Road, Apapa.
“The defendant being the driver in charge of DAF truck with registration number RBC 107 ZN drove same vehicle on the public highway in a dangerous and reckless manner to other road users and hit one Abel Okorie o his right leg,” Balogun said.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 18, 24, 16 and 24 Vol. 45 of the Lagos State Traffic Law 2012.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to all the charges brought against him.
Magistrate K.A Ariyo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety.
The surety, according to the Magistrate must be a blood relation to the defendant.
She adjourned the case till April 25, 2019 for mention.
