The police on Monday arraigned a 43-year-old man, Orji Ugbaja, before an Apapa Magistrates’ Court for alleged assault, stealing an iPhone and gold necklace in Lagos.
Ugbaja is facing a three-count charge bordering on conspiracy, assault and stealing.
The prosecutor, Inspector Edet Ekpo, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on April 5, 2019 at about 2am at Canal View Estate, Amuwo-Odofin, Lagos.
“The defendant conspired together with one other at large by using a cutlass to inflict on Azeez Opeyemi’s neck,” Ekpo said.
The prosecutor also said that the defendant stole an iPhone 7plus valued at N200,000 and gold necklace valued at N70,000.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 411, 173 and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate Nurudeen Layeni granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
The sureties, according to the Magistrate, must furnish the court with proof of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the matter till May 6, 2019 for mention.
