A 28-year-old man, identified as Ismaila Sodiq, was on Monday arraigned before an Apapa Magistrate’s Court for allegedly tearing the uniform of a police inspector at Kirikiri, Lagos.
Sodiq is facing a two-count charge bordering on assault.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Olugbenga Salami, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on May 18, 2019 at Happy Home Avenue, Kirikiri.
“The defendant assaulted one Inspector Odunlade Olarewaju, a police officer attached to Kirikiri Division, by holding his uniform and pushing him,” Salami said.
He said Olarewaju’s torn uniform was valued at N10,000 and is the property of the Federal Government of Nigeria.
According to him, the offences are punishable under sections 174 and 350 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges. Magistrate T.A Popoola granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties each in like sum.
The sureties are required to furnish the court with evidence of tax payment to Lagos State Government.
He adjourned the case till May 27, 2019 for mention.
