Maritime Media Limited, publishers of Nigeria’s premier maritime journal, Shipping World magazine and organisers of the annual Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA) have released the nominations for the Maritime Man of the Year 2014 award.
MIMA seeks to acknowledge the contributions of individuals and corporate bodies, who in the discharge of their responsibilities facilitate quantum innovations and development in Nigeria’s maritime industry.
The nominees for the Maritime Man of the Year 2014 include Mallam Habib Abdullahi, Managing Director, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) who has been nominated for initiating several far-reaching reforms in at NPA which majorly centre on the introduction of electronic platforms to increase efficiency, eliminate human interface and by extension, increase cargo throughput and revenue generation and reduce dwell time and turnaround time for vessels calling at Nigerian; Barr. Hassan Bello, Executive Secretary, Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC) for repositioning NSC to take centre-stage to become the rallying point for Nigerian Shippers and making the Council more visible and pro-active thereby enforcing its authority and mandate like never before witnessed; and Mr. Joshua Okpo, Rector, Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron for prudent administration of funds allocated to the academy and his genuine commitment to the transformation of the academy into a world-class maritime training institution.
Engr. Greg Ogbeifun, Chief Executive Officer, Starsz Investment Company Limited was also nominated for his pioneering role as the CEO of Nigeria’s first indigenously operated shipyard facility which continuously set the pace for dry dock services among other vessel maintenance activities in the West and Central Africa region.
CEO of Maritime Medial Limited, Elder Asu Beks who announced the nominations in a press release sent to SHIPS & PORTS DAILY yesterday said: “These individuals presented have championed growth and development in Nigeria’s maritime industry from their exclusive areas of specialization. Their contributions have increased human capacity, improved local content participation and increased revenue generated into federal government coffers.”
