Despite the recent rains, ongoing work at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport runway is now at 96 percent, the Minister of State, Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika has said.
The minister, who paid an unscheduled visit to the construction site yesterday, said, “You could see that where we are is runway 22. Remember the work started from runway 04 and ended at runway 22.
“You could see that we have finished ashpalting and we are at 96 percent completion level of the runway. “
Speaking at the remaining part of the work, the minister said, “What remains is a part of the airfield lighting and the markings which are being done simultaneously.
“The runway had some undulated surfaces earlier on which has been tended to and reduced significantly to near even level.
“Also the chamber for it to drain out rains has been improved upon so the runway won’t be retaining water as in the past.”
He added, “We have got about a week to the due date for opening so we are on schedule.”
