Barely two weeks after SHIPS & PORTS reported that herds of cows were roaming freely on the busy Wharf Road and Point Road Apapa – two major roads leading to the Apapa and Tin Can Island ports in Lagos – the cows have been removed.
On August 8, SHIPS & PORTS published pictures of the cows roaming freely on the port roads especially around the Area B Police Command, opposite Leventis and near the headquarters of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF).
The development criticised by port users and residents of Apapa, calling on the Lagos State Government and Apapa Local Government to remove the roaming cows from the busy roads.
However, shortly after the publication, the Apapa Local Government Area Council, on the orders of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, deployed vehicles and heavily armed policemen to evacuate the cows from the busy port road.
When SHIPS & PORTS visited the access roads on Tuesday, all the cows have been removed and taken to an unknown destination.
